Investigation of the Effects of Music Type on Hand-Eye Reaction Time of Taekwondo Athletes Between 10-14 Years of Age

Abstract

Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of music genre on hand-eye reaction time in taekwondo athletes aged 10-14 years. Method: A total of 20 taekwondo athletes, 10 male and 10 female, with a mean age of 12.4±1.90 years, participated voluntarily in the study. The reaction times of the participants were tested in 3 types of music environments (optional music, classical music, quiet environment) with dominant hand, non-dominant hand and two hands. Hand-eye reaction time was determined with the ‘Formula Reactions’ protocol in the BlazedPod application on the smartphone. Two-factor ANOVA for repeated measures and independent t-tests for paired groups were used to compare the data. Results: It was observed that the reaction time determined with the dominant hand was lower than the non-dominant hand in the preferred music. Conclusion: In conclusion, it can be said that playing the preferred music in the background during training positively affects the non-dominant hand reaction time in taekwondo athletes aged 10-14 years.

10-14 Yaş Arası Taekwondo Sporcularında Müzik Türünün El-Göz Tepki Süresi Üzerine Etkilerinin İncelenmesi

Abstract

Amaç: Bu araştırmanın amacı 10-14 yaş arası taekwondo sporcularında müzik türünün el-göz tepki süresi üzerine etkilerinin incelenmesidir. Yöntem: Araştırmaya yaş ortalaması 12,4±1,90 yıl olan 10 erkek ve 10 kız olmak üzere toplam 20 taekwondo sporcusu gönüllü olarak katıldı. Katılımcıların tepki süreleri 3 tür müzik ortamında (tercihe bağlı müzik, klasik müzik, sessiz ortam) dominant el, dominant olmayan el ve çift el ile test edildi. El-göz tepki süresi akıllı telefonda bulunan BlazedPod adlı uygulama içerisindeki “Formula Reactions” protokolü ile belirlendi. Verilerin karşılaştırılması için iki faktörlü ve tekrarlı ölçümler için ANOVA, ikili gruplar için bağımsız t testleri kullanıldı. Bulgular: Tercih edilen müzikte çift el ve dominant el ile belirlenen tepki süresinin dominant olmayan elden daha düşük olduğu gözlendi. Sonuç: Sonuç olarak; tercih edilen müziğin antrenman esnasında arka planda çalınmasının 10-14 yaş arası taekwondo sporcularında dominant olmayan el tepki süresini olumlu etkilediği söylenebilir.
