The Effect of Football Teaching with Tactical Game Model on Life Skills and Imagination Levels*

Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of research was to investigate effects of football teaching with tactical game model on life skills and imagination levels of students. Method: The research has been evaluated with a pre-test-post-test quasi-experimental model with a control group, one of the quantitative research designs. A total of 40 sixth grade students, 20 each in experimental and control groups, studying at Merkez Atatürk Secondary School in Cihanbeyli district of Konya province, participated in research. The experimental group received a football training schedule designed with a tactical game model, while the control group received a direct instruction model for 2 hours per week for 12 weeks. In research, the “Personal Information Form”, “Life Skills Scale for Sport” and “The Sport Imagery Questionnaire for Children” advanced by researchers have been used. Analysis of data have been used Shapiro Wilk Test, descriptive statistics, Mann Whitney U Test and Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. Results: While no statistically significant difference was identified among pre-test mean points of experimental and control groups with regards to effect of sports on life skills variable, a significant difference was designated on behalf of experimental group in post-test mean points. While no statistically significant difference was specified among pre-test mean points of experimental and control groups with regards to effect of sports on imagination levels, a significant difference was determined on behalf of experimental group in post-test mean points. In results of the within-group analysis, a statistically significant difference was detected in pre-test and post-test point averages of both control group students who were instructed football with direct instruction model and experimental group students who were instructed tactical game model. Conclusion: It has been determined that teaching football with tactical game model has a positive effect on students’ life skills and imagination level, while teaching football with direct instruction model has no meaningful effect on students’ life skills and imagination level.
