The Relationship Between Physıcal Educatıon and Sports Teachers’ Social Loafing Levels and Work Alienation Levels
Abstract
Purpose: The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between physical education and sports teachers’ levels of social loafing and levels of work alienation.
Method: The study group consisted of tenured Physical Education and Sports Teachers working in the province of Ankara in 2026. The study reached a total of 220 participants, including 59 women and 161 men. The first section of the survey consisted of a personal information form; the second section included the “Self-Alienation Scale” developed by Korman (1981), the “Work Alienation Scale” developed by Hirschfeld and Feild (2000), and the “Work Alienation Scale” adapted into Turkish by Anaş (2016), and the third section consisted of the “Perceived Social Loafing Scale” developed by George (1992), expanded by Liden et al. (2004), and adapted into Turkish by Ülke (2006). The data obtained in this study were analyzed using the SPSS 25.0 software package. In the analysis of descriptive data, t-tests and one-way analysis of variance (One-Way ANOVA) were conducted. The relationship between the dependent and independent variables was analyzed using Pearson correlation, and the effect of the independent variable on the dependent variable was assessed using simple regression analysis.
Results: The research findings revealed no significant differences in participants’ levels of social loafing and work alienation across the variables of age, gender, marital status, and professional experience (p>0.05); however, a significant difference was found between levels of social loafing and work alienation (p<0.05).
Conclusion: It can be said that as the social loafing of physical education and sports teachers increases, their levels of work alienation also increase; however, their levels of social loafing and work alienation are not affected by demographic variables
