The Republic of Cyprus established under the guarantee of Turkey, Greece and
the United Kingdom on 16th August 1960 unfortunately doesn’t last long, and the abovementioned
republic gets demolished after the Greek Cypriot assaults started due to the
Akritas Plan aiming to kill all the Turkish Cypriots on the island so as to make the island a
Greek island on 21st December 1963. Subsequent to the period mostly known as the Bloody
Christmas, The Greek Cypriot assaults continue, and the Turkish Cypriots start leaving their
homes back, and try to go to safer places. Then they manage to establish their first radio station
names Bayrak in difficulty and simplicity to inform their availability to the public abroad.
In addition to the radio station on the island, another station is established in Anamur, the
southernmost point of Turkey being very close to Cyprus. Doing so, the propaganda activities
continue nonstop, and it is hardly possible for the Greek Cypriots to keep track and to control
its broadcasting. This scientific study will focus on Anamur Radio Station starting from 1963
up to 1974 in detail.
