Adaptation Study of the Balanced Measure of Psychological Needs Scale to Turkish Culture

Abstract

Psychological
needs are one of the most widely studied topics in the field of mental health
for a long time. One of the commonly used approaches in psychological needs
satisfaction research in recent years is self-determination theory.  It is stated in the frame of self-determination
theory that psychological needs are universal and can be classified as needs of
competence, relationship and autonomy. In this study, it is aimed to make the
adaptation of the Balanced Measure of Psychological Needs (BMPN) Scale which
was developed in order to measure the satisfaction level within the framework
of self-determination theory, to Turkish culture. After examining the related
literature, the validity and reliability study of BMPN Scale has been carried
out on the students of Faculty of Educational Sciences of Ankara University and
on the pedagogical formation students from other faculties. Confirmatory factor
analysis in the study was conducted on 285 people, criterion related validity
on 282 people and test re-test reliability on 50 people. 80.5% of the
respondents were female, 19.5% were male. The average age of participants is
22. As a result of the research, it was determined that the psychometric
properties of the scale were adequate and the model fit values were good.
Accordingly, Turkish form of BMPN is a valid and reliable measurement tool that
can be used in research on needs satisfaction.

Psikolojik İhtiyaç Doyumunda Denge Ölçeği: Türkçe Uyarlama Çalışması

Abstract

Psikolojik ihtiyaçlar konusu ruh sağlığı alanında
uzun süredir yaygın olarak çalışılan konulardan biridir. Bu ihtiyaçlara yönelik
çeşitli kuramsal görüşler ortaya atılmış ve psikolojik ihtiyaçlar çeşitli
şekilde sınıflandırılmıştır. Öz belirleme kuramı çerçevesinde psikolojik
ihtiyaçların evrensel olduğu ve yeterlik, ilişkisellik ve özerklik olarak ele
alınabileceği belirtilmektedir. Bu araştırmada, öz belirleme kuramı
çerçevesinde ihtiyaç doyumunu ölçmeye yönelik olarak geliştirilmiş Psikolojik
İhtiyaç Doyumunda Denge Ölçeğinin (PİDDÖ) Türkçeye uyarlama çalışması
gerçekleştirilmiştir. PİDDÖ’nün geçerlik ve güvenirlik çalışması Ankara
Üniversitesi Eğitim Bilimleri Fakültesi öğrencileri ve bu fakültede formasyon
eğitimi gören diğer fakülte öğrencileri üzerinde gerçekleştirilmiştir.
Araştırmada doğrulayıcı faktör analizi 285 kişi, benzer ölçek geçerliği için
282 kişi, test tekrar test güvenirliği 50 kişi üzerinden gerçekleştirilmiştir.
Araştırmaya katılanların % 80,5’i  kadın,
% 19,5’i erkektir. Katılımcıların yaş ortalaması 22’ dir. Araştırma sonucunda
ölçeğin psikometrik özelliklerinin yeterli düzeyde olduğu, model uyum
değerlerinin iyi olduğu belirlenmiştir. Buna göre PİDDÖ ihtiyaç doyumuna
ilişkin araştırmalarda kullanılabilecek geçerli ve güvenilir bir ölçme
aracıdır.
