Öz

Ghazan, fallawing that embraced Islam, became Ilkhan with the patranage of Iranians. To rule all Muslims in his territory, both Sunnis and Shies, he preferred tolerable behavior with them. Although, he acknowledged Sunnism as the majority religion, in the meantime, favored sympathetic attitude to Shiites. But, adversarial relations with Mamluks of Egypt, as the main riva! of Ilkhans and ghazan to rule to whole Islamic world, that have attempted to show themselves as the defenders of Sunni Islam by supporting neminal Abbasid Caliphate of Cairo, was main reason that ghazan had to have tendeney for Shiite beliefs.
