THE KHARİJİTE THEOLOGY AND ABU HANİFAH
Abstract
The essay consists of two chapters (sections): the first chapter deals with Kharijite
theology. Kharijites were the first ones who became known for unlawfully making takfeer of
the peuple of İslam due to sins. The harsh doctrine of early Kharijter who were were known
for orgy In their devotions is that any Muslim who commits a major sin is profane. This
notion of takfir (declaring Muslims to be outside Islam), permitted the Kharijite groups.
According to Kharijites, the Qur'an must be taken literally and should not be subject to
interpretation. Faith · was not for only sineere befief, but alsa putting the commands into
action and desısting from the prohibitions was alsa part of fa ith. Fa ith was a com po und
thing made up of belief and action. There was an. unconditional necessity to revalt against
an unjust governor or leader. They believed that "bidding to good" and "forbidding evli" are
not conditional on anything, and that in all circümstances this divine comniand must be
carried out. the second part offers an analysis of Abu Hanifah kalarn theology. As a
philosophical theologian, Abu Hanifah lnclined toward a mavement in his time that was
named Kharijites. Abu Hanlfa debated with many misled sects and defeated them.
