Musiki Nazariyecisi ve Efsanevi Kişilik Olarak Urumiyeli Safiyyüddin
Abstract
Famous music theorist Safi al-Din ai-Urmawi (d. 1294) systematized
"Old Orient Sound System with 17 Notes" through writing two·treatises
Kitab ai-Advar (The Book of Musical Modes) and ai-Risala a/-
Sharafiyya fi a/-Nisab ai-Ta'lifiyya (The Sharafian Treatise on Musica/
Proportions). And during centuries after him, his wörks were translated
and commented by music theOrists and benefıted from his
w.orks. We meet Safi ai-Din's two personalities in musical manuscripts.
His system was analysed in some manuscripts, and in others
Safi al-Din was placed as a mythical musician. This second type manuscripts didtı't analyse Safi ai-DTn's music theory but explain
modes and rhytmic cycles, and alsa relations with music and astrology
and effects of modes on human body and saul. Safi ai-DTn was
naturally placed as a mythical figure not music theorist in these
works because there is no trace on Safi ai-DTn's mythi.cal personalty
in his books. In this study these two types of manuscripts were analysed.
