Aşure Günü, Muharrem Matemi/Orucu Ve Sivas'ta Aşure Uygulamaları
Abstract
Most, if not all, of the religions, faiths and ideologies attribute special.
importance or holiness to same of the dates, days or nights over the
others. Such dates, days or nights derive their importance because of
certain histarical events taking place in those times and, thus, have
been celebrated w ith joy or sadness· in their anniversaries depending
on the content of the events. Such dates and events are important ·
factors which keep social and cultural fabric alive. This is true for
Muslim societies as well. Asure is one of the important holy days
among Muslims with little difference in its understanding. It is celebrated on the tenth of the fırst month of Muslim lunar caJendar. It is
believed that many prophets were redeemed- from· the anguish or
succeeded in their struggle. in that date, and thus, it has been regarded
·as holy, and· celebrated, in many Arabic, Israeli and Persian
societies. It is the Muharram fastt grief and Aşura celebrations that
currently marked Alevities in Turkey. In this study the author sur-.
veyed the practice and the celebration of the day of Aşure and Muharram
grief/fast in Sivas. In this way, one of the important symbols
in a fa ith tradition, to which most of members of Turkish society are
attracted, is presented in detail.
