Abstract

In this article, first of all, it has been mentioned about the origins of
Charatheodory family who were from Edirne and briefly the family life
of Physician Stefanos. After that, it has been considered his
educational life has been mentioning about the schools which he
attends. Then, it has been told about his bright career, intellectual
and cultural life. In this study, it has been seen that by means of his
preference how he directs to be an imperial physician and a physician
lecturer being far away from the atmosphere which he is expected to
be a Greek intellectual who is supporter of freedom by Greek
bourgeoisie and intellectuals. Furthermore, it has been understood
that he has gained a respectable position on the eye of government
and society by means of his industriousness, professional career,
intellectual and cultural accumulation.

Bir Saray Hekiminin Serencamı: İstefanaki Karatodori* (1789- 1867)

Abstract

Bu yazıda, ilk önce Edirneli Karatodori ailesinin kökeni ve kısaca Hekim
İstefanaki’nin aile hayatı üzerinde durulmuştur. Ardından okudu-
ğu okullardan bahsedilerek eğitim yaşamı ele alınmıştır. Daha sonra
ise parlak meslek kariyeri, ilim ve kültür hayatına temas edilmiştir. Bu
çalışmada, kendisine destek olan Rum burjuvazisi ve aydınlarınca ba-
ğımsızlık yanlısı bir Rum aydını olması beklenen İstefanaki
Karatodori’nin, yaptığı tercihle bu atmosferden hızla uzaklaşarak, nasıl
saray hekimliğine ve tıp muallimliğine uzandığı görülmektedir. Ayrıca
çalışkanlığı, mesleki kariyeri, ilmi ve kültürel birikimiyle devlet ve
toplum nazarında saygın bir yeri elde ettiği anlaşılmaktadır.
