Seismic Stratigraphical Investigation of Izmit Gulf with Shallow Seismic Data
Öz
By using Uniboom system, 45 lines of shalllow seismic records were obtained in Gulf of Izmit. Total length of the lines is approximately 300 km Apart from the seismic and bathymetric data, available field geology knowledge was formed a basis for interpretations in this study. Ecah of the seismic sections in itself be associated with each other have been interpreted stratigraphic and structural sense. As a result, the seismic stratigraphic units and faults have been determined in the seismic sections. By interpretation of seismic data obtained from the field of investigation using seismic stratigraphic method, the following units have been defined from top the bottom; recent sediments, truncation surface belongs to last glacial periods and older sediments formed earlier to this period seen on acoustic basement. From old to young atotal of 4 different type seismic stratigraphic unit such as 1, 2, 3 and 4 have been identified in the seismic sections. During the Holocene transgression (Flandrian transgression) deposited to date units (3, 4) with pre-Holocene unit (2) are distinguished. Sequence thickness varies between 5 and 45 miliseconds. Unconformity surface, which is determined in the seismic sections, shows high reflection amplitude, undulating structures in all sections and the younger sediments are seen terminating by leaning on this surfacepond were determined. Unconformity surface, which is determined in the seismic sections, shows high reflection amplitude, undulating structures in all sections and the younger sediments are seen terminating by leaning on this surface.
