Factors Disturbing Exercise Compliance; A Study On Family Practice Outpatient Clinic

Abstract

Purpose: This study was performed to assess the factors which prevent obese patients from regular exercise. Methods: A questionnarie was given to 1400 patients (748 female, 653 male) who attended to Baskent University Adana Hospital obesity outpatient clinic. Results: The cases expressed the main reason for exercise noncompliance as "Lack of time" (55,5%). Other excuses were as follows; having a disease which prevents them to exercise (39,6%), Inertia (24,6%), Lack of adherence (23,1%), Absence of suitable environment (22,8%), Safety issues (18,3%), Environmental pressure (14,8%), Lack of company (14,1%), Unfulfilling family responsibilities (11,5%), Fear of having an accident (9,5%), Not believing in exercising (8,3%), Not internalizing exercise (7,6%), Fear of unconcious exercise (7,3%), Thinking exercise is harmful (5,9%), Not knowing the best time for exercise (4,5%), No need for exercise (3,7%) and finally "Imposition" Conclusion: Obese cases need to have a better understanding in terms of benefits of exercise and health workers need to play a main role on this subject

Egzersize Uyumu Engelleyen Faktörler: Aile Hekimliği Poliklinik Hastaları Üzerinde Bir Çalışma

Abstract

Amaç: Bu çalışma Aile Hekimliği obezite polikliniğine başvuran hastaların egzersiz programlarına uymama nedenlerinin araştırılması için düzenlenmiştir. Yöntem: Başkent Üniversitesi Adana Hastanesi Aile Hekimliği obezite polikliniğine başvuran 1400 hastaya (748kadın, 652 erkek) bir anket formu uygulandı. Bulgular: Vakalar egzersize devam edememelerinin en önemli nedeni olarak zaman yokluğunu öne sürdüler (%55,5). Takiben egzersiz yapmalarını engelleyen bir hastalıklarının olması (%39,6), Üşenme (%24,6), Sürdürme zorluğu (%23,1), Egzersize müsait çevre yokluğu (%22,8), Egzersiz sırasında güvenlikle ilgili sıkıntılar (%18,3), Çevresel baskı (%14,8), Eşlik edecek birinin olmaması (%14,1), Ailesel sorumlulukların aksatılması (%11,5), Kazaya uğrama korkusu (%9,5), Egzersizin faydalı olmadığı inancı (%8,3), Egzersizi içselleştirememe (%7,6), Bilinçsiz egzersizin zararlı olduğu korkusu (%7,3), Egzersizin zararlı olduğu inancı (% 5,9), Egzersiz yapacağı zamanı bilememe (%4,5), Egzersize ihtiyacının olmaması (%3,7) ve Egzersizin bir medya dayatması olduğu korkusu (%2.3) gibi mazeretler sunuldu. Sonuç: Obez vakalarımıza egzersiz ve faydaları dinamik bir şekilde belirtilmeli, hekim ve sağlık çalışanları düzenli egzersiz yapmaları için hastalar üzerinde yönlendirici olmalıdır.
