Abstract

Twin deficits hypothesis is claim that there is existing of reletaionship between budget deficits and current account deficits The Keynesian traditional proposition claim that budget deficits led to current account deficits On the other hand the Ricardion equivalence hypothesis claim that there is no any relationship between the budget deficits and current account deficits In this study we examine the relationship between budget deficits and current account deficits in Turkey for 1975 2002 period with annual data by using the Engle Granger E G two steps co integration methodology and Granger causality test Our co integration analysis showed that there is a long run relationship between the budget and current account deficits And also according to the results of causality analysis we found that while there is a direction of causality is from budget deficits to current account deficits in the first lag a direction of causality is from current account deficits to budget deficits in the third and seventh lags Keywords: Twin Deficits Cointegration Test Granger Causality Test Current Account Budget Deficit

Abstract

İkiz açıklar hipotezi bütçe açıkları ile cari işlem açıkları arasında bir ilişkinin varlığını iddia eder Geleneksel Keynesyen öngörü bütçe açıklarının cari işlemeler açıklarına yol açacağını iddia eder buna karşın Ricardian denkliği hipotezi de bütçe açıkları ile cari işlem açıkları arasında herhangi bir ilişkinin olmadığını iddia eder Bu çalışmada bütçe açıkları ile cari işlem açıkları arasındaki ilişkiyi 1975 2002 dönemi yıllık verileriyle Engle Granger E G iki aşamalı eş bütünleşme yöntemi ve Granger nedensellik testiyle Türkiye için sınanmıştır Eş bütünleşme analizimiz göstermiştir ki bütçe açıkları ile cari işlem açıkları arasında uzun dönemli bir ilişki vardır Ayrıca nedensellik analizinin sonuçlarına göre birinci gecikmede bütçe açıklarından cari açıklara doğru üçüncü ve yedinci gecikmede de cari açıklardan bütçe açıklarına doğru nedensellik bulunmuştur Anahtar kelimeler: İkiz Açıklar Eş Bütünleşme Testi Granger Nedensellik Testi Cari İşlemler Bütçe Açığı
