Abstract
This study refers to the explanation of tourism potential of Mersin and evaluation of Mersin tourism in the Turkish economy by giving general knowledge about Turkish tourism sector According to the information obtained Mersin is an important settlement with its geographic location historical and cultural structure extending back to the ancient periods and has a high potential in terms of tourism However attractions of Mersin could not achieve the expectations and could not create an important income impact on Turkish economy Serious tasks should be undertaken by local administators Key Word: Tourism of Mersin Tourism Turkish Economy

Bu çalışmada, Türkiye’deki turizm sektörü hakkında genel bilgiler verilerek,
Mersin turizm potansiyeli açıklanacak ve Mersin turizminin Türkiye ekonomisi
içerisindeki yeri değerlendirilecektir. Elde edilen bilgilere göre, coğrafi konumu, çok
eski dönemlere kadar uzanan tarihsel ve kültürel yapısı ile önemli bir yerleşim yeri olan
Mersin, turizm açısından yüksek potansiyele sahiptir. Ancak Mersin’in sahip olduğu
çekicilikler turizmde beklentileri karşılayamamış, Türkiye ekonomisinde önemli bir
gelir etkisi yaratamamıştır. Mersin’de turizmin gelişmesinde yerel yöneticilere ciddi
görevler düşmektedir
