In this article, Janet Langlois wrote an
introduction to the special issue of JFR (Journal of Folklore Research) on
semiotics. She briefly introduced the articles in the issue and mentioned some
introductory sources about semiotics. Jonathan Evans, Olivia Cadaval, Kwesi
Yankah, Beverly J. Stoeltje, and John H. McDowell contributed to this special
issue of the journal. After briefly focusing on the basis of semiotics,
Langlois, introduces articles on this basis. In this brief introductory paper,
Langlois tries to help, in her own words, to find answers to the questions of
"Which folklore?" and "Which semiotics?".
