Evaluation of Apple Orchards in Iğdır Plain for Soil Fertility
Abstract
Igdir plain has a significant potential in terms of agricultural production. Especially apple cultivation have an important place in the agriculture sector last 10 years. In this study, soil fertility of apple orchards were investigated with soil analysis. Soil samples have been taken 0-30 cm and 30-60 cm depth from the 29 apple orchards larger than 5 acres, representing the region. Almost all the sampled apple orchards have been identified as clay soils and no salinity problems, pH values ranged between 7.5 and 8.4, lime contents too much, and organic matter contents too low. N, awailable P, Mn, and Zn content have been very low. In contrast, amounts of exchangeable Ca, Mg, K, Na, Fe, and Cu were sufficient.
