TÜRKİYE’NİN ETKİNLİK TURİZMİ POTANSİYELİNİN DEĞERLENDİRİLMESİ

Year 2017, Issue: 2, 35 - 51, 01.04.2017

Abstract

An Evaluation of Event Tourism Potential of Turkey

Year 2017, Issue: 2, 35 - 51, 01.04.2017

Abstract

Events are often viewed as tourist attractions. Therefore, small or large, all the destina‐tion are in search for organizing local, national or sometimes international events. In this sense, Turkey has an abundant potential for the event tourism thanks to its heritage and, natural and cultural resources. However, this potential is not well‐benefited since the or‐ganized events are mostly small in scale, local or short in duration due to lack of approp‐riate planning and management. In this regard, this study aims to evaluate event tourism potential of Turkey, and offer a roadmap for better management of these events. In this regard, initially the impacts of events on hosting destinations are scrutinized. Next, event tourism potential of Turkey is examined, and in the last section a guideline is offered in order to better benefit of the event tourism. The study discussions underline the impor‐tance of participatory planning that incorporates the local residents.
