Abstract
Her geçen gün artan çevre sorunları tüm canlıların geleceğini tehdit eden boyutlara ulaşmaktadır. İklim değişiklikleriyle beraber gelen çevresel felaketler, artan kuraklık ve kirlilik bu durumu en iyi şekilde gözler önüne sermektedir. İnsanların doğayı hiç bitmek tükenmek bilmeyen bir kaynak olarak görerek onu amaçlarına ulaşmak için bir araç konumuna indirgemeleri ve kendilerini doğanın bir parçası olarak değil de onun üstünde görmelerinin çevre sorunlarının arkasında yatan gerçek nedenler olduğu söylenebilir. Doğa insan ilişkileri kar-çıkar ilişkilerine değil de doğa-insan uyum ve birlikteliğine odaklanmalıdır. Gelecek nesillerin daha güvenli ve sağlıklı yarınlara ulaşma şansları ellerinden alınmadan böyle bir uyum ve birlikteliğin toplumda bir an önce tesis edilmesi gerekmektedir. Çevreyi koruma ve geliştirme konusunda insanların bilinçlendirilmeleri, yapılacak çabalar adına büyük önem taşımaktadır. Bu konuda yerel yönetimlere büyük görev ve sorumluluklar düşmektedir. Çevre sorunlarının çözümünde etkili kurumlar olarak yerel yönetimlerin, yerel düzeyde halkın temiz ve daha yaşanabilir bir çevrede yaşamlarını sürdürmelerini sağlamak gibi çok önemli bir sorumluluğu bulunmaktadır. İşte bu sorumluluklarında yerel yönetimlere çevre eğitimi rehberlik edebilecektir. Çevre eğitimiyle bilinçlendirilen toplum bireyleri, yaşadıkları çevreye saygı duymayı onu korumayı bir görev olarak kabul edebilecek, gelecek nesillere karşı sorumluluk duyabileceklerdir. Çevre korumda caydırıcı cezalar ve sıkı yasalar her ne kadar etkili olsalar da insanların çevreye karşı bakış açıları değiştirilmedikçe istenen sonuçlara ulaşılması kolay olmayacaktır. Eğitim ile insan davranışlarının istendik yönde değiştirilmesi mümkün olduğu düşünülürse, çevre eğitiminin çevre korumadaki önem ve ayrıcalığı da ön plana çıkabilecektir. Teorik olarak yürütülen bu çalışmada, yerel yönetimlerde çevre korumanın bir aracı olarak çevre eğitiminin önemi vurgulanacaktır

Abstract
Increasing environmental problems have threatened the future of all living things every passing day. Environmental disasters those come with climate change, increasing drought and pollution reveal this situation in the best way. People see nature as a never-ending source and a tool to achieve their goals. They believe that they are superior to nature. This is the real reason behind environmental problems. Nature-human relations should be based on harmony and unity not on profit and interest. For future generations such a harmony and unity in the community must be established as soon as possible. In this respect, raising environmental awareness of people is of great importance. Local governments have great tasks and responsibilities on this subject. As effective institutions in solving environmental problems local governments should ensure cleaner and more livable environment for the local people. With their responsibility, environmental education will be able to guide to local governments. Community members, given awareness through environmental education, will be able to accept as a duty to respect and protect the environment so they will be able to have responsibility towards future generations. if you don’t change the people’s point of view against environmental values, it will not be easy to achieve the desired results despite the dissuasive penalties and strict environmental protection laws. However changing human behavior in desired way is possible through education. Here, importance of environmental education occurs for the protection of environment. In this theoretical study, the importance of environmental education as a tool for environmental protection in local governments will be highlighted
