İnanç, Kadınlar ve Göç: Almanya’daki Bir Türk Ailesinin Kuşaklararası Karşılaştırması

Abstract

Bu çalışma, Türk göçmen bir ailedeki üç kuşak kadın arasında inancın farklılıklarını ve sürekliliğini incelemektedir. James Fowler'ın inanç gelişimi kuramından esinlenen çalışma, inancın göç bağlamında kuşaklar boyunca nasıl anlaşıldığını, içselleştirildiğini, dile getirildiğini ve dönüştürüldüğünü ele almaktadır. Ancak Fowler’ın yapısal aşama modelinin ötesine geçmektedir. 2010-2015 yılları arasında gerçekleştirilen mülakatlardan yararlanılarak, göçün, sosyokültürel ortamın ve toplumsal koşulların tek bir aile içindeki üç kuşak Müslüman kadının dinî kimliklerini nasıl biçimlendirdiğini anlamak amacıyla anlatısal, yapısal ve içerik analizleri uygulanmıştır. Büyükannenin inancı, ritüel ağırlıklı ve geleneğe derinden bağlı bir nitelik taşımakta, köken ülkesinin hâkim normlarına duyulan bağlılıkla şekillenmekte ve mitik-literal ile geleneksel unsurların bir karışımını yansıtmaktadır. Bu inanç, öngörülen pratiklere, toplumsal beklentilere ve sosyal normlara uyumun dinî kimliği ve aidiyet duygusunu tanımlamada merkezi bir rol oynadığı, inanç gelişiminin erken aşamalarına özgü, dışsal güdümlü bir inanç biçimini oluşturmaktadır. Annenin durumu, daha kişisel ve psikolojik açıdan uyumlu bir inanca doğru geçişi yansıtmaktadır. Göçün çoklu zorluklarından ve seküler bir ülkedeki gündelik yaşamdan etkilenen anne, dinî öğretileri gelişen beklentileri ve duygusal ihtiyaçlarıyla örtüşecek biçimde yeniden yorumlamaktadır. Bu durum, onda iç tutarlılığın, ahlaki muhakemenin ve duygusal dayanıklılığın dinî deneyiminin ve öz anlayışının giderek daha merkezi bir unsuru hâline geldiği, yansıtıcı ve bireyselleşmiş bir inanç gelişimi aşamasına doğru belirgin bir yönelime işaret etmektedir. Torun ise sorumluluğu, etik muhakemeyi ve ruhsal özerkliği tutarlı bir çerçevede bir araya getirerek daha ileri bir değişimi somutlaştırmaktadır. Onun inancı kurumsal ritüellerle daha az bağlantılıdır; değerlere, sosyal adalete ve öz yönelimli bir maneviyata doğru daha fazla meyillidir. Bu geleneksel ötesi dinî tutum, eleştirel düşünce, kapsayıcılık, çeşitliliğe açıklık ve güçlü bir kişisel özerklik duygusuyla belirginleşmekte ve inanç gelişimi modelinin üst aşamalarıyla örtüşmektedir. Her kuşak, kendine özgü sosyotarihsel bağlamları, göç deneyimlerini ve kuşaksal konumlanmaları kendine has bir biçimde müzakere etmektedir. Bu açıdan çalışma, inanç gelişiminin dinamik, bağlama duyarlı ve müzakereye dayalı bir süreç olduğunu ortaya koyarak diaspora topluluklarındaki dinî aktarımın anlaşılmasına katkı sunmaktadır.

Faith, Women, and Migration: Intergenerational Comparisons of a Turkish Family in Germany

Abstract

This study explores intergenerational differences and continuity of faith among three generations of women in a Turkish immigrant family. Grounded in James Fowler's faith development theory, the study examines how faith is understood, internalized, articulated, and transformed across generations in the context of migration. Drawing on in-depth interviews conducted between 2010 and 2015, narrative, structural, and content analyses are employed to understand how migration, sociocultural milieu, and broader societal conditions shape the religious identities of Muslim women across three generations within a single family unit. The grandmother's faith is characterized as ritualistic and deeply rooted in tradition, shaped by deference to the prevailing norms of her country of origin and reflecting a mix of mythic-literal and conventional elements. It constitutes an externally guided form of faith typical of earlier stages of faith development, where adherence to prescribed practices, communal expectations, and social norms play central roles in defining religious identity and belonging. The mother's case illustrates an obvious transition toward a more personalized, psychologically adaptive faith. Influenced by the multifaceted challenges of migration and everyday life in a secular country, she reinterprets religious teachings to align with her evolving expectations and emotional needs. This indicates a discernible move toward a reflective and individuated stage of faith development, where internal consistency, moral reasoning, and emotional resilience become increasingly central to her religious experience and self-understanding. The granddaughter embodies a further evolution, synthesizing responsibility, ethical reasoning, and spiritual autonomy into a coherent personal framework. Her faith is considerably less tied to institutional rituals and more oriented toward values, social justice, and self-directed spirituality. This post-conventional form of religiosity aligns with the higher stages of Fowler's faith development model, marked by critical thinking, inclusivity, openness to diversity, and a strong sense of personal agency. Each generation negotiates faith in a distinct manner, influenced by its unique sociohistorical contexts, migratory experiences, and generational positioning. This study makes a meaningful contribution to the understanding of religious transmission in diasporic communities, demonstrating that faith development is a dynamic, context-sensitive, and negotiation-based process.
