Abdullah Yusuf Alı’s Interpretatıon Of The Qur’anıc Tale Of Zul-Qarnain
Abstract
The Indian exegete and thinker Abdullah Yusuf Ali (d. 1957) is the writer of the English translation of and commentary on the Qur’an named The Glorious Qur’an; Translation and Commentary. Though Abdullah Yusuf Ali’s principle goal in composing this work was to explain the meanings of the Qur’anic verses, he also intended to counteract the harmful impacts of the Orientalist scholarship in the field of Qur’anic studies. This commentary is tersely written considering the needs of the 20th century man. I think that the most interesting characteristic of this work is the way the author interprets the Qur’anic tales, as seen in the tale of Zul-Qarnain.
