I am Esra Ateş, an environmental engineer and research assistant at Artvin Çoruh University's Faculty of Engineering, Department of Environmental Engineering, where I have been serving since 2016.
I completed my undergraduate education at Middle East Technical University (METU), graduating from the Department of Environmental Engineering in 2013. I then pursued my Master's degree at Hacettepe University, where I focused on evaluating Turkey's hazardous waste management system, graduating in 2017. I continued my doctoral studies at the same institution and completed my Ph.D. in 2025, with a dissertation investigating the energy generation potential of whey wastewater using a sediment microbial fuel cell.
My primary research areas include hazardous waste management, sediment microbial fuel cells, and wastewater treatment. I have published several peer-reviewed articles in international journals, covering topics such as lead adsorption using sawdust, the electrical potential of whey in microbial fuel cells, and data-driven forecasting of hazardous waste generation in Türkiye. I have also presented my work at numerous national and international conferences.
Beyond my publications, I have been involved in national scientific research project as well as European Union-funded initiatives, including the "Back to Green" project, which aims to engage youth in environmental responsibility.
