Plagiarism Policy

DAHUDER Medical Journal is firmly committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity and ensuring that all published content reflects original, ethical, and scientifically sound research. The journal views plagiarism in any form as a serious violation of scholarly conduct and employs rigorous measures to detect, prevent, and address such misconduct.

1. Scope and Principles

DAHUDER MJ defines plagiarism as the unauthorized use of another author’s ideas, methods, data, or wording without appropriate citation. This includes both the misuse of others’ work and the unethical reuse of one’s own previously published material (self-plagiarism). All manuscripts must represent original contributions and must comply with international ethical publishing standards.

2. Types of Plagiarism Recognized by DAHUDER MJ

A. Direct/Complete Plagiarism

The verbatim reproduction of previously published text, results, or concepts without any modification or acknowledgment.

B. Mosaic/Partial Plagiarism

The blending of content from multiple sources—even if rephrased or rearranged—without proper attribution to the original authors.

C. Self-Plagiarism (Redundant Publication)

Reusing substantial portions of one’s own previously published text, figures, or data without citation, or submitting an already published study as new work.

3. Similarity Check and Pre-Submission Recommendations

DAHUDER MJ encourages authors to submit a similarity report when providing a new manuscript. Even when authors perform a preliminary assessment, the journal may independently scan the manuscript using the iThenticate program.
A manuscript may be returned or rejected if:

The overall similarity index exceeds 20% (excluding the reference list), or
More than 3% similarity originates from a single source.
If similarity issues are detected, authors are contacted and invited to revise the manuscript or provide justification for the overlapping content.

4. Plagiarism Screening Procedure

All submitted manuscripts undergo an originality check as part of the initial editorial process. When potential plagiarism is identified, DAHUDER MJ follows the structured workflow below:

Step 1 — Preliminary Screening

The Editorial Office conducts an initial analysis to determine whether the similarity is acceptable (e.g., standard phrases, methods descriptions) or raises ethical concerns.

Step 2 — In-Depth Editorial Assessment

If concerns persist, the case is forwarded to the full Editorial Board for a detailed evaluation of the extent and nature of the similarity.

Step 3 — Author Notification

The corresponding author is informed of the concerns and is required to provide a written explanation or supporting documentation within 15 days.

Step 4 — Institutional Referral

If the author does not respond within the specified time or if the explanation is insufficient, the journal contacts the author’s affiliated institution and requests a formal inquiry in accordance with institutional research ethics procedures.
Parties who identify suspicious similarity may also report such concerns to: selcukyaylaci@sakarya.edu.tr

5. Actions in Confirmed Cases of Plagiarism

If plagiarism (or serious self-plagiarism) is verified in a published article, DAHUDER MJ implements the following measures:

Retraction and Removal:

The article is retracted, removed from the journal’s website and issue archive, and all associated links are disabled. The article title is updated to include the phrase “Retracted: Plagiarized Article.”

Institutional Notification:

The journal informs the authors’ affiliated institution and requests appropriate disciplinary action.

Submission Ban:

The responsible author(s) are prohibited from submitting manuscripts to DAHUDER MJ for a period of two years.

6. Commitment to Ethical Publishing

DAHUDER Medical Journal remains dedicated to protecting the scholarly record and promoting a transparent, ethical, and responsible publishing environment. The journal adheres to international best practices and encourages authors, reviewers, and readers to uphold these standards.
