With a common saying, Religious Education activities as old as human
history. These activities were performed conveying of culture to young generation
throughout the centuries. But the scientific approach to these activities, have
occurred only in last few centuries. Especially in Turkey, scientific researches on
religious education are fairly new. For example, the department of Religious Education
Sciences was constituted in 1982 at the Faculty of Theology.
Religious education researches contribute to clarify the right and wrong sides,
strongnesses, weaknesses, or deficiencies of religious education activities. Thus
religious education researches have contributed these activities more scientifi-
cal. Additionally, this process provides religious education to develop theories;
concepts, principles, methods etc.
Recently, religious education research has increased very fast in Turkey. But
this increase has remained only in number. The qualitative side still needs to
be developed. It is possible to do some researches on this topic. One of the
sufficient ways to carry out more qualified researches is to criticize previous
researches by new researches. Unfortunately, in our country, such kinds of researches
are very little. Such researches can provide opportunities, different aims,
problems, methods, etc. for religious education researches and new research
areas. These researches also contribute to develop the theories and practices of
religious education.
In this article, we aim to discuss qualification of master’s and doctoral dissertations
about Koran courses in Turkey. Therefore in this work it will be inquired;
problems, sub-problems, hypothesis, research methods, variable types, samples,
data collection techniques, data analysis techniques, etc. of these researches.
We use “descriptive analysis method” in this study.
In this study, 20 thesis were examined, these were prepared from 1996 to
2009 in Turkey. 17 of them are M.A. thesis and 3 of them are doctoral thesis.
13 theses were submitted at Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies
and Religious Education program. Most of these theses were prepared at Seljuk
University.
According to our research results we see that the number of the studies about
Koran courses has increased after the year 2005.There are a few dissertations
which focused on special topics/problems about Koran courses. But some
of them studied same sub topics/problems. Therefore, these theses don’t have
scholarly depth.
In general, the examined theses are constituted in a framework of scientific research
methodology of social sciences. In other words, these theses have basic headings
required by a scientific study. However some of them have some deficiencies.
For example, some of them have not main or sub-problems, hypothesis etc.
14 theses are quantitative studies, 4 theses are theoretical studies and 2 theses
are quantitative and qualitative studies. 13 theses were used only one data
collection technique (survey). 3 these were used 2 or 3 techniques (survey, interview,
observation etc.)
The samples of the examined dissertations mostly were selected from students
and teachers of Koran courses. Generally, the samples were preferred
randomly.
Demographic and personal specialties generally consists the independent variables.
Unfortunately, in some theses the effects of independent factors on the
dependent factors weren’t tested and reviewed. In most of these studies only
the frequencies and the percentages were presented. But multivariate analysis
techniques were also used in some of these dissertations.
Din eğitimi anabilim dalının gelişmesine paralel olarak, ülkemizde gerçekleştirilen din eğitimi faaliyetlerini problem edinen bilimsel araştırmaların sayısında son yıllarda önemli bir artış yaşanmaktadır. Ancak söz konusu araştırmalarla ilgili olarak, nitelik artışının da aynı paralelde ilerlediğini söyleyebilmek tartışılmaya değer bir konudur. Nitelik artışına katkı sağlayabilecek çalışmalardan biri de yapılan araştırmaların başka araştırmalara konu edilerek, bilimsel kritiğinin yapılmasıdır. Ne var ki, ülkemizde bu tür çalışmaların sayısı yok denecek kadar azdır. Bu makalede, ülkemizde yer alan yaygın din eğitimi kurumlarından olan Kur'an Kurslarını konu alan yüksek lisans ve doktora tezleri; ele aldıkları problem, alt problemler, araştırma yöntemleri, değişken türleri, örneklemleri, veri toplama teknikleri, veri analiz teknikleri vb. açılardan "betimsel analiz" yaklaşımına göre incelenmiş, ortaya çıkan sonuçlar ışığında, bundan sonra yapılabilecek çalışmalara dair önerilerde bulunulmuştur.Çalışmada 1996-2009 yılları arasında ülkemizde yapılan 20 adet tez incelenmiştir. Bunlardan 17'si yüksek lisans, 3'ü doktora tezidir. Bu tezlerin 13'ü Felsefe ve Din Bilimleri Anabilim Dalı Din Eğitimi Bilim Dalında yapılmıştır. Araştırma neticesinde, 2005 yılından sonra Kur'an kurslarını konu edinen tezlerin sayısında önemli artış yaşandığı görülmektedir. Kur'an kurslarıyla ilgili spesifik konuların/problemlerin derinlemesine ele alındığı tezler bulunmakla birlikte, bazı tezlerde genelde aynı alt konuların/problemlerin daha yüzeysel bir şekilde işlendiği görülmüştür. Kur'an kurslarını konu alan bu tezlerin geneli bilimsel araştırma metodolojisi çerçevesinde yapılandırılmıştır. İncelenen tezlerin 14'ü nicel, 4'ü kuramsal, 2'si ise nitel destekli nicel desenlidir. Bununla birlikte, bazı tezlerde problemlerin, denencelerin, yöntemlerin ortaya konuluşunda bir takım yetersizlikler olduğu görülmüştür.
