The Schools where the organized education is presented and the teachers
and the principals who are on duty in these schools, are responsible for the
forming an education environment provides to internalize the students’ rights
and their responsibilities in each action.
The purpose of the study is to scrutinize the ethical behaviors and approaches
through the students’ opinions. In order to realize this purpose, an interview is
held among these primary school students under the basis of these ethical behaviors
and approaches.
According to the results of the research study, the factors emphasized by the
students in defining the student ethics are these: not to bother or disturb anybody,
to be faithful to the promises, truthfulness, honesty, tolerance, to be optimistic,
to be cheerful, to do a favor, not to lie, not to start a gang, not to break
the peace, not to cheat, to do homework, to listen to the course carefully, not to
sadden the teachers, not to rebel, not to be obstinate, to pay attention to the clothes,
and especially to be respectful; their emphasizing upon these basic topics
of the ethics can be assessed as a positive result.
On the other side the students are pointing out the unethical behaviors such
as being disrespectful to the teachers, talking always without permission, not
listening to the teachers’ speech, misusing the goodwill of the teachers, lying;
and they stressed that these behaviors are usually performed by the students.
Besides this, the students point out especially the serious problem of the homework
ethic. Moreover some of the students are unaware of using instant homework
taken from the internet and plagiarism; they don’t know how unethical
they are. This situation is a big problem that we face with.
Students are quite disturbed by their friends’ unethical behaviors. For instance
students mention the harassment cases, especially among the male students,
these are really remarkable discoveries. On the other hand, the theft cases inside
the school and some of the male students’ being apt to be violent towards the
female students are significant ethical problems that should be dwelled upon.
Furthermore, among the important findings there are remarkably smoking cases,
becoming gangs and alcohol consumption no matter how it is in low rate
just for now. Most of the students think that unethical behaviors will result in
social exclusion. Some of the students are pointing out the lack of discipline
with these behaviors.
In order to lessen the unethical behaviors, students are listing the behaviors
that the principality is responsible for like that: not to ignore the unethical acts,
to educate the students through the seminar methods, to be hand in hand with
the families. And the students point out the requirement of the application of
discipline sanctions, the functionality of the school rules and more importantly,
more effective work of counseling service.
Yayla (2009) in his study of the analysis of the education concept from an ethical
view, he said that, “the presence of an interrelation between the moral life
and the education make these two phenomena close to each other.”
According to research findings in different fields like medicine and education,
the education of ethics is more important than before. The necessity of the education
of ethics makes itself apparent and evident.
An Ethics contract can be prepared among the students and the teachers.
The standards of ethical behaviors of the schools can be formed.
At schools, ethical rules must be constituted. In these rules the students must
exist along with the teachers and the principals. The participation process of the
students must be encouraged.
In order to prevent the unethical behaviors of the students, it is necessary to
raise awareness of both the students and the families. And the great mission falls
to the counseling service. In dealing with the ethical problems, an effective role
should be given to the counseling services.
The lessons or units should be added to the curriculum including some cases
related with ethics. The harassment tendency among the male students can be
thought as a crucial sign of the lack of sexual education. About this issue, an
adequate education should be given both to the students and to the families. The
punishment systems of the school must be applicable. About this, the functional
sanctions of the school can be increased. At school, in regular intervals, the
instructors can make use of some scales such as, the ethical behavior scale, in
order to measure the unethical acts.
About cigarette, alcohol, drugs and starting gangs, it is possible to have outern
support from the experts of these issues and some seminars can be given.
Bu araştırmanın amacı, ilköğretim öğrencilerinin etik davranışları hakkında görüşlerinin belirlenmesidir. Araştırma, nitel desende oluşturulmuştur. Nitel araştırma desenlerinden araştırmanın doğasına uygun olan olgubilim deseni kullanılmıştır. Araştırmada yapı bakımından yarı yapılandırılmış açık uçlu mülâkat formu kullanılmıştır. Verilerin çözümlenmesinde içerik analizi türlerinden kategorisel analiz kullanılmıştır. İlköğretim okullarında eğitim gören on üç öğrenciyle mülâkat yapılmıştır. Araştırmada öğrencilerin, öğretmene saygı göstermemesi, söz almadan konuşması, öğretmeni dinlememesi, öğretmenin iyi niyetini kötüye kullanması, yalan söylemesi, izinsiz birşeyi alması ve şiddet uygulaması bulgulanmıştır. Erkek öğrenciler arasında taciz vakalarının varlığı, sigara içilmesi, az dahi olsa alkol kullanan öğrencilerin ve çeteleşmelerin varlığı dikkat çeken önemli bulgular arasındadır. Araştırma sonucunda öğretim programına etikle ilgili örnek olayları içeren üniteler ya da ders konulması, okullarda belli zaman dilimlerinde etik dışı davranışları belirlemeye yönelik ölçeklerden yararlanılması gibi öneriler getirilmiştir.
