Confucian Philosophical Values in Modern Japan

Abstract

Historically, japan used a complex seledion and adaptation process
zohen neıo foreign ideas rvere introduced to Japan. This process ıvas also applied
to Confucian philosophical values zuhen thcy entered Japan around the fifth
century AD. Sonic of these values zoere blcnded zoith indigenous ideas in order
for them to fit into the Japanese context.
in this paper, I examine the role that Confucian philosophical values play in the
modern Japanese context. This study is based on documents pertaining to history,
education, and economy of Japan.
Draıving on examples, this paper presents that, although many Japanese might
not be azvare of the nature of their behavior, Confucian philosophical values remain
prominent in modern Japan. The comparison betıoeenJhe values and the
behavior in various contexts shoıu that, whethcr consciously or unconsciously,
many Japanese stili follozu the code of ethics that are inherent in the Confucian
philosophical values.

Modern Japonya'da Konfüçyen Felsefî Değerler

Abstract

Japonya, tarih boyunca yeni yabancı fikirler ülkeye girdiğinde karmaşık bir ayıklama ve uyum süreci takip etmiştir. Bu süreç Japonya'ya M.O. beşinci yüzyıl civarında giren Konfüçyen felsefî değerlere de uygulanmıştır. Bu değerlerden bazıları Japon bağlamına uymaları için yerli fikirlerle harmanlanmıştır. Bu makalede, Konfüçyen felsefî değerlerin modern Japonya bağlamında oynadıkları rol incelenmektedir. Bu çalışma, Japonya'nın tarihi, eğitimi vo ekonomisiyle ilgili belgelere dayanmaktadır. Her ne kadar birçok Japon, davranışlarının doğasını farketmemiş olsa da Konfüçyen felsefî değerlerin bugünkü Japonya'da önemi olmaya devam ettiklerini örnekler üzerinden gösteren makale, değişik bağlamlardaki değerlerin ve davranışların karşılaştırılması suretiyle bilinçli ya da bilinçsiz olarak birçok Japon'un Konfüçyen felsefî değerlere özgü ahlâkî kuralları iakip ettiğini göstermektedir.
