Abstract
Allah almighty sent all the messengers in the languages of their people to guide them to the straight path. Thus, holy Qurʾān was revealed in Arabic language because of the fact that Arabic was the language of the Arabs who were the first people to hear and understand the message of the holy Qurʾān. They moved forward under the Qurʾān’s guidance. When Islam rapidly spread from Arabic peninsula to the rest of the world, other people with different languages accepted Islam. Translations of the Qurʾān into the languages of the new non-Arab Muslims played an important role for them to understand and absorb the meaning and the message of the Qurʾān. Today, the Qurʾān is translated into so many different languages. The Qurʾān is protected in the sight of Allah both in terms of its words and meanings. Translations which are produced to understand the message of the Qurʾān, merely consist of conveying of what translators’ understanding of the Qurʾān. Therefore, there are many different translations available. However, there are some claims that the translations and the Qurʾān are the same in nature. This approach might lead to the wrong conclusion for the translations to be perceived as the Qurʾān itself. In this study, we will examine whether the translations can be considered as the Qurʾān itself or not, by reviewing the translation work of Ali Rıza Safa called “The Holy Qurʾān-Genuine.”
