LEARNING ABOUT ATOMIC MODELS WITH TURKISH MARBLE ART

Abstract

This study set out to introduce pre-service teachers to a
visual and artistic teaching technique combining science and art that they
could make use of in their science/physics classes to provide students with an
entertaining lesson that achieves the learning of the considerably abstract
concept of the model of the atom. In the light of this knowledge, the purpose
of this paper is to introduce an active and entertaining example of teaching
technique that brings science and art together by using the art of Turkish
ebru, or paper marbling, which has been around for thousands of years, to make
atomic models that have developed and evolved over the centuries. The primary
approach of the study is to produce the atomic models of Dalton, Thomson,
Rutherford, Bohr as well as modern atomic models with the art of marbling,
using a fine-tipped metal tool called biz (awl) to drop different colors of
pigment into water and then apply these colors to paper, creating marbling
designs depicting the model of the atom.

ATOM MODELLERİNİ EBRU SANATI İLE ÖĞRENİYORUM

Abstract












Bu çalışma, fen/fizik derslerinin oldukça soyut bir konusu
olan atom modellerinin öğretiminde, fen/fizik öğretmenlerinin derslerinde
kullanabilecekleri, öğrencilere eğlenceli ve yaparak öğrenmeler sağlayabilecek,
bilim ve sanatın iç içe geçtiği bir görsel ve sanatsal öğretim etkinliğini
tanıtmak için hazırlanmıştır. Bu bilgiler ışığında, bu çalışmanın amacı
binlerce yıllık Ebru sanatı yolu ile, yüzyıllar içinde gelişen atom modellerini
yaparak, bilim ve sanatı bir araya getiren aktif ve eğlenceli bir örnek öğretim
tekniğini tanıtmak; bu öğretim tekniğinin etkililiğini değerlendirmektir.
Çalışmanın temel yaklaşımı, bilim tarihi boyunca ortaya konulmuş olan Dalton,
Thomson, Rutherford, Bohr ve Modern Atom modellerini ebru sanatı yoluyla,
farklı renk boyaları, "biz" adı verilen metal ince bir uç yardımı ile
su üzerine damlatma işlemi yapıp; sonrasında kağıt üzerine alarak, atom modeli
içerikli ebru desenleri oluşturmaktır.
