Abstract

SEAPORT SUPPLY CHAIN ORIENTATION AND ITS IMPACT ON PERFORMANCE

Abstract

Supply chain management (SCM) philosophy proposes that business performance can be improved by embracing a systems approach in which supply chains are viewed as whole rather than independent members in a supply chain (SC). Supply chain orientation (SCO) is seen as a requirement for successful execution of SCM in a chain of inter-connected businesses. Together, SCM and SCO can be seen as key factor for all sectors. Ports are an inseparable part of international trade and SCs. As ports have a key role in supply chains it is very important to assess SCO and performance of ports from users’ perspective. However, the literature analyzing SCO in port sector is limited. This research aims to analyze SCO level in one of the biggest ports of Turkey. Besides this port SCO and its effect on port performance (PP) from port users’ perspectives is analyzed in this research. According to the findings, the level of SCO is moderate. Among SCO dimensions integrations mechanism (CIP) effect all of three performance dimensions where relationship with users (RWU) effect two performance dimensions.
