FROM GENERAL SYSTEM THEORY TO FAMILY SYSTEMS THEORY: SYSTEM THEORY IN FAMILY STUDIES

Abstract

In this article, the general system theory, which is used as one of the important theoretical approaches affecting family studies, will be discussed. Unlike other theories, general systems theory is a theory developed in the field of natural sciences and included in family research through clinical applications. The studies carried out using general system theory in the field of family therapy continued with the opening of the general system approach to discussion in sociology. Today, the influence of the general system theory in the development of the family system theory, which is frequently used by family counsellors, and in the researchers conducted inthe field of family sociology is seen intensively especially after the 1980s. In this study, it is aimed to explain the theoretical foundations of the general system theory within the historical context. How the general system theory is applied to family studies and its place in family studies are also discussed in the article.

GENEL SİSTEM TEORİSİNDEN AİLE SİSTEMLERİ TEORİSİNE: AİLE ÇALIŞMALARINDA SİSTEM KURAMI

Abstract

Bu makalede aile çalışmalarını etkileyen ve önemli kuramsal yaklaşımlardan biri olarak kullanılan genel sistem teorisi ele alınacaktır. Genel sistem teorisi diğer kuramların aksine doğa bilimleri alanında geliştirilen ve klinik uygulamalar yoluyla aile araştırmalarına dâhil edilen bir kuramdır. Aile terapisi alanında genel sistem teorisi kullanılarak yürütülen çalışmalar, genel sistem yaklaşımının sosyoloji içerisinde de tartışmaya açılması ile sürmüştür. Günümüzde aile danışmanları tarafından sıklıkla kullanılan aile sistemi teorisinin geliştirilmesinde ve aile sosyolojisi alanında yapılan araştırmalarda genel sistem teorisinin etkisi özellikle 1980’lerden sonra yoğun olarak görülmektedir. Bu çalışmada da bütün bu gelişmelerden hareketle genel sistem kuramının tarihsel bağlam içerisinde teorik temellerinin açıklanması amaçlanmıştır. Genel sistem kuramının aile çalışmalarına nasıl uygulandığı ve aile çalışmalarındaki yeri de makale içerisinde ele alınmıştır.
