MELANCHOLIC EXISTENCE OF UNAMUNO IN FOG AND ABEL SÁNCHEZ

Abstract

The aim of the study is the existential analysis of Fog and Abel Sánchez by Miguel de Unamuno through his thoughts on immortality. Spanish philosopher and writer from Generation of 98' discusse his existential conflicts in life in The Tragic Sense of Life. He positions himself against static thoughts that he continuously criticizes his earlier radical believes. Unamuno provides a clear ground for this analysis as he succeds to concrete the abstract concepts on existentialism in his novels through his conceptiual characters and their relationships within the story lines. Unamuno reflects his thoughts on existentialism in his novels directly through the narrator or within the dialogs and monologs of the characters in the storyline. The conversion from physical to sacred love or the sensation of hatred to search for eternity are presented through the dialogs without criticizing. He provides concrete samples in his novels on the search for immortality that forms the basis of his philosophy on existentialism. He discusses the conflicts in mystical and mental dimensions. Unamuno provides additional dimensions in his novels as he unites reality with his fiction including the dreams. His novels achieve to clarify through the complexity of the abstract concepts he discusses on existentialism. The characters, their relations and the story line confirm their predefined purposes. He succeeds to unite the mental and mystical perspectives in his novels where the limits of fiction and reality are blurred in their integrated version, even transpassing the boundaries of the conscious mind. The essay book by Unamuno on his existential search for immortality in life, transforms into a comprehensive guide for the analysis of his two existential novels, especially in the interpretation of the behaviours of characters based on their relations.

SİS VE ABEL SÁNCHEZ ROMANLARINDA UNAMUNO'NUN VAROLUŞ HÜZNÜ

Abstract

İspanyol 98 Kuşağı yazarı ve düşünürü Miguel de Unamuno'nun Niebla (Sis) ve Abel Sánchez: una historia de pasión (Abel Sánchez: Tutkulu Bir Aşk Hikâyesi) romanlarının varoluşçuluk yaklaşımı kullaılarak incelenmesi çalışmanın amacını oluşturur. Unamuno, varoluşçuluk ve ölümsüzlük kapsamında yaşadığı çelişkileri ele aldığı Del sentimiento tragico de la vida (Yaşamın Trajik Duygusu) adlı felsefi denemesinde, mantık ve metafizik açılardan yaptığı değerlendirmeleri bütünsel yapıda ortaya koyar. Felsefi çalışmasında tartıştığı soyut kavramları, romanlarının olay örgüsü için özenle seçtiği karakterler arası ilişkilerde somutlaştırmış olması, varoluşçu bir okuma için imkân sunar. Düşünce yapısının sabitliği karşısında duran düşünür, geçmişteki radikal düşüncelerini tartışmaya açarak özeleştiri yapmaktan çekinmez. Varoluşçu düşünceleri, roman anlatıcılarının cümlelerinde, karakterlerin diyaloglarında ve monologlarında yerini bulur. Unamuno'nun denemelerinde ortaya koyduğu ölümsüzlük arayışı, hikâyelerinde vücut bulur. Fiziksel sevginin ruhani aşka geçişinin ve nefret duygusunun ölümsüzlük arayışına dönüşmesinin karakterlerin karşılıklı konuşmalarında değerlendirilmesini sağlar. Yaşamdaki varoluş çelişkilerini ele aldığı romanlarında, mistik ve mantıksal açılardan bütünsel olarak tartışmaya açar. Kurgunun ve gerçekliğin iç içe geçtiği metinlerine rüyalar da dahil olur. Düşünce yapısındaki çelişkilerden doğan anlaşılmazlığı romanlarıyla açıklığa kavuşturur. Unamuno’nun roman karakterlerini ve aralarındaki ilişkileri kurgularken, felsefi düşüncelerini adım adım somutlaştıracak şekilde planlanladığı anlaşılır.
