DIOSCORUS OF ALEXANDRIA: HIS CHRISTOLOGY AND EXILE IN GANGRA

Abstract

In Turkish academia, Dioscorus of Alexandria are generally dealt with in studies centered on the Second Council of Ephesus and the Council of Chalcedon. Therefore, it can be said that the studies on the Christology of Dioscorus are insufficient in Turkish literature. Moreover, it is difficult to determine his Christological position, since his name is associated with both Monophysites and Miaphysites. He was criticized by the followers of the Dyophysite view. The existence of such different attributions requires a special study of Dioscorus’s Christology. Therefore, this article critically and comprehensively examines Dioscorus’s Christology, a leading figure in the Alexandrian tradition and a follower of Cyril. The study uses not only classical and modern literature, but also the Vita Dioscori written by Theopistus, a disciple of Dioscorus, to examine Dioscorus’s Christological stance. Consequently, as it is seen that Dioscorus was interested in different Christological doctrines at different periods of his life.

Aleksandrealı Dioscorus: Kristolojisi ve Gangra Sürgünü

Abstract

Ülkemiz academiasında, Aleksandrealı Dioscorus’a ilişkin meselelerin genellikle II. Ephesus Konsili ve Khalkedon Konsili konuları etrafında yoğunlaşan çalışmalarda ele alındığı görülmektedir. Dolayısıyla, Dioscorus’un kristolojisi üzerine dilimizdeki çalışmaların yetersiz kaldığı söylenebilir. Ayrıca, onun kristolojik duruşunu tespit etmek oldukça güçtür; zira adı hem monofizitlerle hem de miafizitlerle anılmaktadır. Dahası, dyofizit anlayışının destekçileri tarafından da eleştirildiği görülmektedir. Bu tür farklı atıfların bulunması, Dioscorus’un kristolojisi üzerine özel bir çalışma gerekliliğini doğurmuştur. Bu çalışmada, Dioscorus’un kristolojisi üzerine yoğunlaşmaktadır. Onun kristolojisine dair sağlıklı bir tespitte bulunmak maksadıyla Dioscorus’un savunduğu kristoloji, miafizit ve monofizit ile dyofizit öğretiler bağlamında değerlendirilmiştir. Dioscorus’a ilişkin sadece Khalkedon Konsili’ne kadar olan süreçte yaşananları değil, ayrıca Khalkedon Konsili sonrasında sürgün edildiği Gangra şehrinde (Paflagonya’da) tecrübe ettiği muhtelif vakalar ele alınarak onun kristolojik duruşunun analizine odaklanmıştır. Çalışmada, Theopistus adlı talebesinin Dioscorus’a atfen yazdığı Vita Dioscori’nin yanı sıra klasik ve modern literatürden istifade edilmiştir. Sonuç olarak, Dioscorus’un hayatının farklı dönemlerinde, farklı kristolojik öğretilere ilgi duyduğu anlaşılmıştır.
