Petrographic and SEM-EDS Analyses of CAI Structures in Vigarano Type Carbonaceous Chondritic Meteorite NWA 5508

Abstract

Carbonaceous chondrites are the most primitive remnants of the early solar system, providing valuable information about the formation and evolution of the solar system. These extraterrestrial materials are rare and critical for understanding the conditions and processes that shaped the solar nebula. Vigarano-type carbonaceous meteorites are of particular importance since they contain unique Calcium-Aluminum-rich inclusions (CAIs), which are the earliest solids formed in the solar system and date back to 4.5 Ga. These inclusions provide fundamental clues about the environment of their origin. In addition, studying the mineralogical and chemical composition of carbonaceous chondrites and their potential source bodies is crucial, especially for the advancement of asteroid mining research. This study focuses on petrographic and scanning electron microscopy (SEM)-energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) analysis of the Vigarano-type NWA 5508 carbonaceous chondrite, known for its CAI-rich lithology.
