ASSESSMENT OF STRUCTURAL RESPONSE OF FATİH SULTAN MEHMET BRIDGE UNDER VEHICLE LOADS

Abstract

The study presents the assesment of structural response of Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge under vehicle loads which is the one of the two suspension bridge in Turkey. For the purpose, 3D finite element model of the bridge was constituted using SAP2000 software. The traffic loads with three different vehicle load patterns were dynamically applied to model to investigate the effects of vehicles on the response of bridge. In the firts load pattern, analyses were performed for a truck with 50 t mass when moving on the middle lane of the bridge with four different speeds. In the second load pattern, analyses were performed for 12 trucks with 50 t mass when moving on the four lanes towards to same way of the bridge with four different speeds. In the third load pattern, analyses were performed for 12 trucks with 50 t mass when moving on the four lanes towards to same way and other 12 trucks when moving opposite lanes. The result obtained from analyses listed and illustrated in tables and figures, respectively. It is seen from the study that the different vehicle loading and vehicle speeds considerably effects the structural response of the bridge
