EFFECT OF ROOF SUPPORT WINDOW ON COAL LOSS

Abstract

In Turkey, many of the coal seams mined out in underground are thick coal seams. As production system of these thick seams, mostly longwall top coal caving (LTCC) method is preferred due to relative simple organizational aspects. In LTCC method, some part of top coal cannot be drawn through the support window, so it is lost in gob. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of increasing roof support window width on coal loss at Omerler underground mine. In this study, the design of the roof support has not been changed. Only, the width of the roof support window has been increased and the area has increased by 25%. In the results of the physical model experiments, the coal loss according to top coal has decreased from 29.21% to 19.56% after increasing the roof support window width. In summary, it is seen that by increasing the area of the roof support window, production loss has been decreased by about 30 %.
