DETERMINATION OF VALIDITY OF MATURITY FUNCTIONS FOR MORTARS MADE WITH VARIOUS CEMENTS
Abstract
The maturity method is a technique for estimating the strength gain of concrete during its
curing period by measuring the combined effect of time and temperature. The method used as
a nondestructive test method is a relatively simple approach for making reliable estimates of
in-place strength during construction. Many maturity functions have been proposed since
1940’s. The Nurse-Saul function and equivalent age function were accepted in the world.
In this study, the validity of the traditional maturity functions for blended cements and
ordinary Portland cement was investigated according to ASTM C 1074. In order to produce
blended cements three different pozzolan were replaced 5 %, 20 % and 40 % by weight of
cement. Mortars specimens prepared according to TS 24 were cured at 5, 20 and 40°C. The
compressive strength of mortars was determined at 2, 7, 14, 28 and 90 days after then the
relationship between maturity and strength was investigated. It is concluded that Nurse-Saul
and equivalent age maturity functions were applicable for different blended cements.

Abstract
Olgunluk kavramı, kür süresince sıcaklık ve zamanın ortak etkisini ele alarak betonun
dayanım kazanmasını tahmin eden bir yöntemdir. Tahribatsız deney yöntemi olarak kullanılan
bu yöntem, yapım sırasında yerinde dökülen betonun dayanımı hakkında güvenilir bir
tahminde bulunmak için oldukça basit bir yaklaşımdır. 1940’lardan beri birçok olgunluk
fonksiyonu önerilmiştir. Nurse-Saul fonksiyonu ve eşdeğer yaş fonksiyonu tüm dünyada
kabul görmüştür.
Bu çalışmada, katkılı çimento ve Portland çimentosu için bilinen olgunluk
fonksiyonlarının geçerliliği ASTM C 1074’e göre araştırılmıştır. Katkılı çimentolar, üç farklı
puzolanın, % 5, % 20 ve % 40 oranında ağırlıkça yer değiştirmesiyle elde edilmiştir. TS 24’e
göre üretilen harç numunelerinin 5, 20 ve 40°C de bakımı yapıldıktan sonra, 2, 7, 14, 28 ve 90
günlük basınç dayanımı değerleri bulunmuştur ve bu değerlerle olgunluk arasındaki ilişki
araştırılmıştır. Nurse-Saul ve eşdeğer yaş olgunluk fonksiyonlarının katkılı çimentolar için
uygulanabilir olduğu sonucuna varılmıştır.
