GEOMETRICAL NONLINEAR STATIC ANALYSIS OF CABLE STRUCTURES

Abstract

General knowledge is given about the usage and static analysis of the cable suspended systems. Geometrical nonlinear solution procedures in literature are summarized. An iterative method is explained to geometrical nonlinear analysis for such systems. A computer program which includes this method is introduced. In this procedure which is similar to Cross Method of classic static, iterative calculation is done by dividing the global system to sub systems that are established in movable nodes. Direct stiffness principles of finite element displacement method is used. Independent from the size of the global system, equilibrium equation that are established in each iteration step is 3. To prevent the divergence of solution problem which is usually encounter in the analysis of cable systems, a convergence procedure is adapted to the method. Numerical examples which are taken from the literature are solved with the prepared computer program and the results are given comparatively.
