ESTIMATION OF LATERAL DISPLACEMENTS IN A REINFORCED CONCRETE STRUCTURE WITH FLATE SLABS BY USING ARTIFICIAL NEURAL NETWORKS

Abstract

As in all kinds of materials, displacement in reinforced concrete is inevitable. Displacement occurs in the direction of the applied load or if there is a resultant load it occurs in the direction of resultant load. In the effects of earthquake and wind, the structure shows displacement in the vertical direction as it shows displacements in the horizontal direction. The expected displacements must be taken into consideration in the project phase and for the reliability of the structures, these displacements must be in constant boundaries. In this study, it is struggled to estimate the horizontal displacement values depend on various parameters by artificial neural networks. Thus, the feed forward artificial neural network which gives the best results in the studies of estimation was used. While establishing the model; height of structure, height of floor, slab thickness and weight of structures were used as input parameters and the displacement occurs in structure was used as output parameter. While solving by artificial neural networks the data used in training and test procedure were taken from the solutions made by finite elements methods (SAP 2000) under different conditions. Maximum difference in the lateral displacement values obtained from Artificial Neural Network and from SAP2000 program is 0,465 mm. As a result of this study, it is shown that lateral displacements can be predicted by using Artificial Neural Networks.
