REMOVAL OF MICA AND HEAVY MINERALS FROM ALBITE OF MUĞLA-MILAS DISTRICT BY FLOTATION

Abstract

This study is concerned with the beneficiation of Mugla-Milas albit deposits by froth flotation. The representative samples labeled A and B used in the experiments were taken from two different areas. Due to the fact that physical, chemical and grinding performance of samples of A and B districts were similar, samples collected were mixed equally and blended. Samples ground to minus 180-micron size with closed circuit reached liberation point (90%). A flotation schema consisting of two consecutive steps was applied. The first stage was the cationic flotation of mica in an acidic circuit by using amines. The second stage was anionic flotation to remove of heavy minerals in an acidic circuit by using petroleum sulfonates. Na-feldspar sample containing 0.26% TiO2, 0.25% Fe2O3 and 10.4% Na2O was subjected to flotation tests to determine optimum flotation conditions. After flotation, a high quality product assaying 0.025% TiO2, 0.029% Fe2O3 and 11.71% Na2O was obtained for requirements of the glass and ceramic industries.
