A CASE STUDY IN THE TRANSPORTATION SERVICE, WHICH IS A PART OF LOGISTICS
Abstract
Transportation is the base of a delivery system. Transportation is simply the displacement of a
material/goods from one place to another. Transportation adds value to the economic activities and
should be deal with great care to provide savings and economy. This applies both to the military and
the civil sector. The purpose of this study is to distribute the supply items that the Turkish Land
Forces will need, from main stores to the units on right time, place, and in an economic way by
introducing the logistic systems and transportation services within this system. For this purpose, a
transportation model is illustrated by using linear programming technique. It is assumed that the
material quantities (four different type), the vehicle number and its capacities in the main depot, the
length and maximum loads capacities of the roads are known in the model. The model developed is
solved by using GAMS software.
