COMPUTATIONAL INVESTIGATION OF CONJUGATE HEAT TRANSFER IN FLOW OVER FLUSH-MOUNTED DISCRETE HEAT SOURCES

Abstract

In this study, forced convection heat transfer in flow over printed circuit board which is simulated as flush-mounted discrete heat sources is investigated computationally. The ratios of substrate-to-air conductivity are 1.37, 24.9, and 6320. In addition to conjugate effect and variable property effect, free-stream turbulence intensity (1.2, 6.9, and 13 %) effects on heat transfer are also investigated. Reynolds number is based on channel hydraulic diameter and analyses are performed at Re=4800 for comparison purpose. Conservation equations for steady, two-dimensional, and turbulent flow are solved by using ANSYS-FLOTRAN Galerkin finite element code. Standart k - ε turbulence model are used. The effects of conjugate heat transfer, property variation, and free stream turbulence intensity on the forced convection are discussed qualitatively by comparing experimental results in literature.
