As
safety measures become more and more important in vehicle cabin design, the
determination of cabin impact resistance and the implementation of crash
testing procedures pose financial and technological challenges for vehicle manufacturers.
Therefore, it is necessary to carry out car impact tests in order to execute
the production of the vehicle cabin by anticipating the behavior of the car in
the event of an accident. In this study, the impact test platform design and
evaluation of impact test results for a special purpose heavy duty vehicle cab
in accordance with ECE-R29 / 3 standards are discussed. In this context, impact
tests were carried out for 4x4, 6x6 and 8x8 driven heavy duty vehicles for the loading conditions of the
cab from the front to the right and from the side at an angle and static
loading from the top. The success of the impact test device designed with the
tests performed was demonstrated and according to the results of the cabin
deformation, the impact resistance of the cabin was found to be suitable for
heavy duty vehicle.
