Abstract

BIBLIOMETRIC ANALYSIS ON FAMILY AND JUVENILE DELINQUENCY

Abstract

The effects of family structure and environmental factors within the social system on a child's involvement in crime have been the subject of numerous socio-psychological studies. Family structure, parental attitudes, the family's socio-economic and educational status, domestic violence, neglect and abuse are important areas of interaction in explaining juvenile delinquency. Understanding how these factors interact helps us comprehend the dynamics that influence a child's developmental stages, behavioural patterns, and propensity towards criminal behaviour. This study evaluates research articles focusing on the relationship between family and juvenile delinquency using bibliometric analysis methods, aiming to provide researchers with a comprehensive bibliometric perspective on the subject. A search was conducted on 6 February 2025 in the Web of Science database using the keywords ‘family’ and ‘juvenile delinquency,’ examining the SSCI, SCI-EXPANDED, and ESCI indexes. Within this scope, 592 research articles published between 1980 and 6 February 2025 were identified. The bibliometric data for these articles were analysed using the Bibliometrix R v4.4.2 package and VOSviewer programmes, and network maps were created. During the analysis process, the articles were evaluated from different perspectives, such as year, research area, research institution, conceptual structure, intellectual networks, and performance analysis. This analysis provides an opportunity to examine studies on family and juvenile delinquency in greater depth, while also offering new perspectives and resources for future studies.
