POSSESSION LOSSES DURING TRAUMA AND SELF EROSION

Abstract

According to the Extended Self Theory, selves may be extended in order to cover the possessions. Besides, traumatic events may also be affect the self. In this sense, the loss of possessions due to traumatic events may cause self-erosion. According to the relevant literature, self-erosion due to possession losses cause disconnection between past, present and future selves. In this study, the erosive effect of unexpected loss of possessions on self is evaluated. Within this context, the loss of Syrian refugees, occur after the developments that start in Syria in 2010 is the framework. The possible self-erosion due to this loss is the main research question.

TRAVMATİK SÜREÇLERDE YAŞANAN SAHİPLİK KAYIPLARI VE BENLİK AŞINMASI

Abstract

Genişletilmiş benlik kuramına göre kişilerin benlikleri sahip olduklarını da kapsayacak biçimde genişlemektedir. Bunun yanında bireylerin yaşadıkları olaylar ve travmalar da benlik üzerinde etkili olabilmektedir. Bu kapsamda, yaşanan travmatik olayların sahipliklerin kaybı ile sonuçlanması, benlik aşınmasına sebep olabilmektedir. Sahipliklerin kaybıyla gerçekleşen benlik aşınmasının geçmiş, mevcut ve gelecek benlikleri arasında bağlantı kurulmasını zorlaştırdığı ilgili çalışmalarda ileri sürülmektedir. Bu çalışma kapsamında, kişilerin sahipliklerini beklenmedik bir şekilde kaybettiklerinde bunun benlikleri üzerindeki aşındırıcı etkisi ele alınmaktadır. Bu çerçevede Suriye’de 2010 yılında başlayan olaylar sonrasında Suriye’den Türkiye’ye sığınanların, sahip olduklarını bırakmak zorunda kalmalarının benzer bir benlik aşınımına yol açabileceği bu çalışmada öne sürülmektedir.
