EFFECTS OF EPIDURAL CORTICOSTEROID ACCOMPANIED BY FLUOROSCOPY ON PAIN VALUES OF PATIENTS WITH SYMPTOMATIC CERVICAL DISCOPATHY

Abstract

Objective: The goal was to investigate the effects of Cervical Interlaminar Epidural Steroid Injection (CIESI) on Visual Analogua Scale (VAS) values in patients with symptomatic cervical discopathy. Methods: Effects of CIESI used for treatment of radiculopathy depending on symptomatic cervical discopathy was retrospectively investigated in 45 patients between February 01, 2011 and July 01, 2012. Mixture of 80 mg of triamcinolone and 3 mL of physiological saline solution in total volume of 5 mL was injected into the epidural space with low-resistance technique accompanied by flouroscopy from C7-T1 space while the patient was lying sidewise. Results: After CIESI application, VAS values of the patients significantly dropped compared to the basal VAS values when considered statistically. After CIESI treatment, success ratios were respectively as follows: 1st week: 85%, 1st month: 95%, 6th month: 89% and 1st year: 89%. Conclusion: Cervical interlaminar epidural steroid injection application is an effective method in treatment of the symptomatic discopathy and it increases patient's satisfaction

Semptomatik Servikal Diskopatili Hastalarda, Floroskopi Eşliğinde Uygulanan Epidural Kortikosteroidlerin, Hastaların Ağrı Değerleri Üzerine Etkileri

Abstract

Amaç: Semptom veren servikal diskopatisi olan hastalarda, Servikal İnterlaminar Epidural Steroid Enjeksiyonu (SİESE)’unun Visual Analogua Scale (VAS) değerleri üzerine etkilerini incelemeyi amaçladık. Yöntemler: 01 Şubat 2011 – 01 Temmuz 2012 tarihleri arasında, 45 hastada semptomatik servikal diskopatiye bağlı radikülopati tedavisinde uyguladığımız SİESE'nin, VAS değerleri üzerine olan etkilerini geriye dönük olarak inceledik. Hastalar yan yatar pozisyonda iken C7-T1 aralığından floroskopi eşliğinde Low-rezistans tekniği ile epidural aralığa 80 mg triamsinolon ve 3 mL serum fizyolojik karışımı toplam 5 mL volüm içinde enjekte edildi. Bulgular: Servikal interlaminar epidural steroid enjeksiyonu uygulaması sonrası hastaların VAS skorları bazal VAS skorlarına göre istatistiksel olarak anlamlı düşüktü. SİESE sonrası başarı oranları sırasıyla 1. hafta %85, 1. ay %95, 6. ay %89 ve 1. yıl %89'du. Sonuç: Servikal interlaminar epidural steroid enjeksiyonu uygulaması semptomatik diskopati tedavisinde etkili bir yöntemdir ve hasta memnuniyetini arttırır
