A Prenatal Case Report with Patau Syndrome

Abstract

In recent years, prenatal diagnosis and elective pregnancy termination have affected the reported birth prevalence of trisomies. Trisomy 13, or Patau syndrome, represents the third autosomic trisomy in order of frequency, after trisomy 21 (Down syndrome) and trisomy 18 (Edwards syndrome), with a prevalence at birth estimated as between 1:12000 and 1:29000. In this study, we are presenting the results of cytogenetic analysis and clinic assessment in fetus of a woman at 22 weeks gestation, who were referred to our genetic diagnostic laboratory with abnormal triple test result, omphalosel and hydrocephaly. We performed the cordocentesis and pedigree analysis. We found a karyotype (47,XY,+13) in fetus. Because individuals of the family didn\'t want, we were not followed the pregnancy prognosis for the mother and the fetus. We were recommending to the prenatal diagnosis for their further pregnancies.

Patau Sendromlu Bir Prenatal Tanı Olgu Sunumu

Abstract

Son yıllarda prenatal tanı ve bunun sonucunda istenmeyen gebeliklerin sonlandırılabilmesi trizomili bebek doğum sıklığını etkilemiştir. Trizomi 13 ya da Patau sendromu, Trizomi 21 (Down sendromu) ve Trizomi 18’den (Edward sendromu) sonra en yaygın olarak görülen üçüncü otozomal trizomik kromozom düzensizliğidir. Trizomi 13 yaklaşık olarak 12.000 ile 29000 arasında değişen sayıdaki canlı doğumda bir görülür. Bu çalışmamızda, Anabilim dalı laboratuvarımıza refere edilen, 22 haftalık gebeliği bulunan, üçlü testte yüksek risk görülen, yapılan USG sonucunda da fetusta omfalosel ve hidrosefali tespit edilen olguya kordosentez ve pedigri analizi yapılmış ve fetusta 47,XY,+13 karyotipi saptanmıştır. Fakat aile istemediğinden dolayı gebelik takibi için gerekli olan çalışmalar gerçekleştirilememiştir. Aileye sonraki tüm olası gebeliklerinde prenatal tanı almaları önerilmiştir
