The results of our external dacryocystorhinostomy performed with single flap and bicanalicular silicone tube intubation

Abstract

Objective: To assess the results of external dacryocystorhinostomy (EDSR) performed with single flap and bicanalicular silicone tube intubation (STI) surgery in our patients with nasolacrimal duct obstruction. Methods: A total of 27 EDSR with single flap + STI operations that were performed under general anesthesia on patients with nasolacrimal duct obstruction aged 7 to 72 (median 43.2) years were evaluated. Results: Five patients (18.5%) were male and 22 (81.4%) were female. All of operations were initial. Median postoperative follow up period was 20.7 ± 7.2 months (10 to 36 months). In three patients (11.1%) the passages of the eyes were closed. Of these patients, one patient (3.7%) had completely closed passage. The remaining 2 patients (7.4%) had partially closed passage. Major complication was observed in any patient during the surgery. Wound hematoma or fistula was observed during follow-up in any patient. There were no complications due to silicone tubing. As a result, patients with nasolacrimal duct obstruction in 24 of 27 (88.9%), success was achieved by ensuring a clear passage. Conclusion: External DSR with single flap + STI is a safe and effective procedure and it may be performed as an operation in patients with nasolacrimal duct obstruction

Eksternal dakriosistorinostomide tek flepli bikanaliküler silikon tüp entübasyonu sonuçlarımız

Abstract

Amaç: Nazolakrimal kanal tıkanıklığı olan hastalarımızda tek flep ile eksternal dakriosistorinostomi (EDSR) ve silikon tüp entübasyonu (STE) cerrahilerinin sonuçlarını değerlendirmek. Yöntemler: Yaşları 7 ile 72 (ortalama 43,3) yıl arasındaki nazolakrimal kanal tıkanıklığı olan 27 hastaya genel anestezi altında tek flep ile EDSR + STE cerrahisi yapıldı. Bulgular: Hastaların 5\'i (%18,5) erkek, 22\'si (%81,4) kadın idi. Hastaların tümü ilk defa tek flep ile EDSR+STE ameliyatı yapılacak primer hastalardı. Ameliyat sonrası hastalar ortalama 20,7 ± 7,2 ay (10-36 ) takip edildi. Takipler esnasında 3 (%11,1) hastada nüks izlendi. Bu hastaların 1\'inde (%3,7) pasaj tam kapalı idi. Kalan 2 hastanın (%7,4) pasajında kısmi tıkanıklık saptandı. Hiçbir hastada ameliyat esnasında major komplikasyona rastlanmadı. Takiplerde yara yeri hematomu ya da fistül gözlenmedi. Silikon tüpe bağlı hiçbir komplikasyon gözlenmedi. Sonuç olarak 27 nazolakrimal kanal tıkanıklığı olan hastanın 24\'ünde (%88,9) başarı sağlanarak açık bir pasaj elde edildi. Sonuç: Tek flep ile yapılan EDSR+STE cerrahisi güvenli, etkili bir yöntemdir ve nazolakrimal kanal tıkanıklıklarında başarıyla uygulanacak bir girişim olarak değerlendirilebilir.
