HODJA AHMAD YASSAWI ACCORDING TO AN APPROACH OF ‘SOCIOLOGICAL’ READING

Abstract

Hodja Ahmad Yassawi (1093-1166?), a man of heart, was born and raised in the same lands with thinker of Islamic civilization, al-Farabi (872-950?), who infl uenced Turks, Muslims, and the whole world with his wisdom and philosophy, and he infl uenced Turks, Muslims, and the whole world with his mystical style, as if he was completing al-Farabi’s thought. It could be observed that there is a sociological approach in Hodja Ahmad Yassawi’s (the founder of one of the main veins of Islamic mysticism tradition) thoughts, way of communicating with the society, and style of teaching religion to the society. Although this sociological perspective can be seen in some parts of his Divan-ı Hikmet, it actually shows itself in his was of connecting to the society. It is possible to see this perspective or approach in his style of presenting, teaching, and narrating Islam to the Turkish society in Turkistan. His effort to teach Islam to Turkish society, which is dominated with oral culture, in a simple and understandable way with tolerance is remarkable. This sociological reading approach has notable signifi cance in Yasawi’s message reaching out to the present. This work aims to understand the sociological reading approach in Hodja Ahmad Yassawi, and while contributing to the understanding of this approach, present Yesevi’s perspective on social events and phenomenon.

‘SOSYOLOJİK’ OKUMA YAKLAȘIMIYLA HOCA AHMED YESEVÎ

Abstract

Hoca Ahmed Yesevî (1093-1166?), aklı ve felsefesiyle Türkleri, Müslümanları ve bütün dünyayı etkileyen İslâm medeniyet düşünürü Fârâbî (872-950?) ile aynı topraklarda doğup yetişmiş ve âdeta Fârâbî’yi tamamlarcasına tasavvufî yönüyle aynı şekilde Türkleri, Müslümanları ve bütün dünyayı etkileyebilmiş bir gönül insanıdır. İslâm tasavvuf geleneğinin ana damarlarından birinin kurucu aktörü olan Hoca Ahmed Yesevî’nin düşüncelerinde, toplumla iletişim kurma yönteminde ve dini topluma öğretme tarzında bir tür ‘sosyolojik’ okuma yaklaşımı gözlemlenebilir. Bu sosyolojik bakış, Dîvân-ı Hikmet adlı eserinde yer yer görülse de asıl onun toplumla kurduğu ilişki biçiminde kendisini göstermekte, tezahür ettirmektedir. Onun Türkistan’da Türk toplumuna İslâm’ı sunma, öğretme, anlatma tarzında söz konusu bakışı veya yaklaşımı görmek mümkündür. Sözlü kültürün hâkim olduğu Türk toplumuna İslâm’ı basitleştirip anlaşılır kılarak ve hoşgörü anlayışı içinde öğretme çabası dikkat çekmektedir. Bir gönül insanı olarak Yesevî’nin çağını aşıp bugünlere mesajını ulaştırabilmesinde de aslında onun bu sosyolojik okuma yaklaşımının önemli bir etkisi vardır. Bu çalışma, Hoca Ahmed Yesevî’de sosyolojik okuma yaklaşımını anlamayı ve bu yaklaşımın anlaşılmasına katkıda bulunarak Yesevî’nin sosyal olay ve olgulara bakış tarzını dikkatlere sunmayı amaçlamaktadır.
