THE SULEYMANIYE MOSQUE AND ITS OFFICIALS ACCORDING TO KANUNI’S FOUNDATION CERTIFICATE

Abstract

Mosques are one of the most important institutions of Islamic civilization. Throughout history, mosques have been places that serve for social needs like education, housing, headquarter, courthouse, cooperation and solidarity as well as being the place of worship. Located in the center of city-plans throughout the history of Islam, mosques have become the main element of more developed complex structures called kulliya. In the kulliyas (social complexes), functional structures are located such as mosque, madrasa, school, library, muvakkithane (time keeper-house), cemetery, hospital, imaret (poorhouse), tabhane (guest house), bazaar, han (inn), Turkish bath, and fountain. It is possible to see the most beautiful examples of these social complexes in the Ottoman Empire. Suleymaniye social complex has an important place among these examples. It has been built by the great architect Mimar Sinan in the reign of Suleyman the Magnificent, one of the most powerful sultans of the Ottoman Empire. In this study, first, some general information will be given about the Suleymaniye Mosque, and then, the services performed in the mosque, which is the main structure of the kulliya, its officials, their qualifications, duties and fees will be mentioned

KANÛNÎ VAKFİYESİ’NE GÖRE SÜLEYMANİYE CAMİİ VE GÖREVLİLERİ

Abstract

Camiler, İslâm medeniyetinin en önemli kurumlarından biridir. Başlangıçtan günümüze kadar ibadethâne olmalarının yanında eğitim, barınma, ordu karargâhı, adliye, yardımlaşma ve dayanışma gibi pek çok ihtiyacın karşılandığı mekânlar olmuşlardır. İslâm tarihi boyunca şehir planlarının merkezinde yer alan camiler, zaman içerisinde gelişmiş külliye yapı- ların da ana unsuru olmuşlardır. Bu külliyelerde cami, medrese, mektep, kütüphane, muvakkithâne, hazîre, dârüşşifâ, imâret, tabhâne, çarşı, han, hamam, çeşme gibi çok işlevsel yapılar yer almıştır. Bu külliyelerin en güzel örneklerini Osmanlı’da görmek mümkündür. Bu örnekler içerisinde Süleymaniye Külliyesi’nin ayrı bir yeri vardır. Bu külliye Osmanlı Devleti’nin en güçlü padişahlarından biri olan Kanûnî döneminde ve en büyük mimarlarından Sinan tarafından yapılmıştır. Bu çalışmada, Süleymaniye Külliyesi hakkında genel bilgiler verildikten sonra Külliyenin ana yapısı olan Süleymaniye Camii’nde yürütülen hizmetler ve bunları yerine getiren personelin nitelikleri ile bunların görevleri ve aldıkları ücretler üzerinde durulacaktır
