MAJOR PRINCIPLES IN
FARE WELL SERMON AND
THEIR QURANIC GROUNDS
Abstract
Prophet Mohammed (saws)
went to Mecca to perform
the rites of his pilgrimage
about three months before
his death (11/632). Upon
hearing he was going on a
pilgrimage to Mecca (hajj),
tens of thousands of Muslims
rushed to Mecca during the
hajj season. That pilgrimage
of the prophet’s was called
the Farewell Pilgrimage and
his address to an audience of
about one hundred thousand
Muslims was called Farewell
(Last) Sermon. In his sermon
here, he delivered a concise
sermon, outlining major
points that he had preached
during his 23-year prophetic
mission.
The main argument of the
present paper is that the
basic principles outlined by
Mohammed (saws) in the
Farewell Sermon were based
on the Quran, which was
revealed to him during his
prophetic mission. With this
in mind we tried to determine
the correspondences of the
basic points and principles in
the Farewell Sermon to revelations
in the Quran. To this
end the main issues in the
text of the Farewell Sermon
were grouped under headings
and then the principles or
issues that the headings refer
to were compared with their
possible correspondences in
the Quran. Each principle
and topic mentioned in the
sermon was showed to have
common grounds with the
Quranic revelations in terms
of their content.

VEDÂ HUTBESİ’NDEKİ TEMEL PRENSİPLER VE
KUR’ÂNÎ TEMELLERİ
Abstract
Hz. Muhammed (s.a.s.) vefatından (11/632) yaklaşık
üç ay kadar önce hac ibadetini edâ etmek için Mekke’ye
gitmiştir. Onun Müslümanları da hacca daveti
üzerine on binlerce Müslüman da o yıl hac mevsiminde
Mekke’ye akın etmişlerdir. Onun bu haccı için
Vedâ haccı, burada yüz bin kişi civarında Müslümana
yaptığı konuşmaya da Vedâ hutbesi denilmiştir. O,
burada 23 yıllık peygamberlik dönemi boyunca tebliğ
ettiği temel esasları ana hatlarıyla özetlemiştir. Bu
esaslar aynı zamanda bütün insanlar için evrensel
temel prensipler niteliğindedir.
Bu çalışma, Hz. Muhammed’in Vedâ haccı esnasındaki
çeşitli konuşmalarında belirtmiş olduğu temel
prensiplerin, onun peygamberlik hayatı boyunca
Allah’tan kendisine vahyedilen Kur’ân’a dayandığı
tezinden hareket edilerek ortaya çıkmıştır. Bu çerçevede
Vedâ hutbesi olarak ifade edilen bu konuş-
malarda ele alınan temel konular ve prensiplerin
Kur’ân’daki karşılıkları tespit edilmeye çalışılmıştır.
Bunun için önce Vedâ hutbesi metninde yer alan ana
konular başlıklar hâline getirilmiş, sonra da başlıklar
hâlinde belirlenen prensip ya da konunun Kur’ân’daki
karşılığı tespit edilmeye çalışılmıştır. Anlatılan her
prensip ve konunun içerik yönünden Kur’ân âyetleri
ile ortaklığına dikkat çekilmiştir.
