Abstract

Al-Fârâbî’s Kitâbu Îsâghûjî ay al-Madkhal is a work that was written about the topics of Eisagoge, in the course of time made a part of Organon. It is seen that Îsâghûjî and Eisagoge are compatible with respect to content, and correspond to each other in terms of fi ve universals. However, in addition to fi ve universals and connections between universals which are the main topics of Eisagoge, al-Fârâbî included some topics, Porphyry confi ned himself to pointing out, in his work. These topics are the subject of the proposition that he briefl y dealt with, the descriptions of the concepts of individual and universal, composite utterances and, correspondingly, the question of defi nition. Thereby, agreeing with Ibn Bājja, it can be said that, as a way of treatment, al-Fârâbî presents a different approach from that of Porphyry. In this article, considering Ibn Bâjja’s opinions, alFârâbî’s mentioned work is analyzed and translated into Turkish.
